We now look forward to 2011 in Denver, CO

Hi dear colleague and friend,
Every year, there is an annual North American International Facilitator’s conference (www.iaf-world.org) and I want to help several new upcoming facilitators to get there. I am overwhelmed at the passion and commitment of this group to give back to their community and keep growing their skills. The folks who want to attend but cannot afford to do so at the current conference cost, represent at least 8 different ethnic backgrounds, range in age from early 20’s to their 50’s and are both men and women. We have been voluntarily co-learning and co-mentoring together for the last 15 months. They are all very keen to keep growing their facilitation skills to take back into their own communities or own constituency groups. Several of them are doing volunteer work using new or strengthened facilitation skills not only in Oregon but also in many organizations and developing nonprofits abroad.
The members of the group have just individually started new jobs or their own businesses, are students, raising their own children and grandchildren or have other circumstances that mean they’d miss out on attending the conference in Denver, CO on April 12-15, 2011 for financial reasons only. I’ve never let money stop me so here is my request.
There are so many different ways we can contribute to making a difference for this dedicated group of emerging facilitators.
The IAF conference people have already agreed to fund up to four at their cost only, or at $300 each, which is a big discount from the usual conference rate of $1000. The airfare is about $300-$400 and the hotel shared will be about $200-$300 each. So in total, we need to raise at least $4000. some of the cohort members are busy trying to raise their own funds, use airmiles etc. we are also collectively applying for a grant for a community serving project from IAF worth $1,000 and one airfare. We’ll know if we are successful by the third week of March
How can you help?
You can all help too, just by making small donations of $25, $50, $100, $150, and $200. Any amount is a step closer to getting all of them there. If you can help, please send a check to “North Star Facilitators” for any amount that makes sense to you earmarked – “cohort donation”. You can also donate below using a credit card. I am so sorry I cannot give you a charitable donation receipt for this. I tried to go that route but no luck.
- Do you have air miles that you can donate? That will help bring the cost of airfare down.
- Do you have family or friendly friends in Chicago that can offer a place to stay? That helps too.
- Do you have a colleague that you can pass on this letter to? That would also help us greatly. I can answer questions about the group or direct you to one of the members, who would be happy to share her or his story. Please note I’ll be out of country from March 9-16.
What Your Donation Provides
You will be helping those attending not only to co-present at the conference to build awareness for bringing in diversity to the facilitation profession but also contribute greatly to their networking and learning in the profession.
